5 Really Important Things I’ve Learned in 30 Years – #4

“Say what you KNOW. Don’t worry about what you don’t know.” Revelation 12:10-11; Ephesians 6:17

I don’t know everything, but I know something! And that something I know is my testimony.

Years ago, a church of approximately 2,000 members was launching their Sunday morning television broadcast, and they asked me to come and lead the entire service – sermon, music, and prayer at the end. I wholeheartedly accepted because I’d already ministered at this church previously and had developed a relationship with the leadership, but as the date got closer I began doubting my own ability to pull it off.

This was going to be a pretty big deal, and though I knew I was capable, I wasn’t confident. So, I went to the Lord and said, “Father, I just don’t think I’m the best choice for this task. There’s so much I don’t know; information I don’t have to share. I’m feeling really unqualified.” It was a Moses moment.

But the Lord said, “Mary-Kathryn, just say what you know. Don’t worry about what you don’t know.” And He revealed to me at that moment that it was my testimony that qualified me. It’s what I’d experienced and learned about Him that qualified me. It’s what He’d revealed to me that qualified me. It was my testimony!

NEVER underestimate the power of your testimony!

Look at what Revelation 12:10-11 says – “Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, ‘Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night.’ And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.”

The Sunday morning came when I was to speak, sing and minister to that congregation and the thousands who would be watching by television. Not only did God give me a powerful message to share, but He’d given me all I needed to deliver what He had for His people that day. It was an amazing time of overcoming fear with faith. I took my fear of lack to the Lord and He showed me that what I already had (my testimony) was more than enough to qualify me, and accomplish the job He’d given me.

Your testimony is more than enough. It qualifies you to minister to others. It’s what you know. It is your sword of the Spirit, and it will make you an overcomer every time. (Ephesians 6:17)

  1. I have learned over the years ,that my whole life is a testimony that is good news, for every song that I write and sing is a part of my life.

  2. Robert Leon says:

What do you mean by “your testimony?” Can you give an example from your message in the 2000 member church? How do you interpret “word of their testimony from Revelation 12:10-11?

    Robert

  3. Mary-Kathryn says:

Robert – Our testimony is any spoken or written record of what God has done. The Hebrew root of the word “testimony” translates “do again.” So, when we speak or write from a place of remembrance of what God has done in our lives, or even of what God has done in the lives of others, we are saying, “Father, do it again!” So, as I spoke that day about the Lord desiring to bring His promises to pass in our lives, I was able to share hope and expectation that God would do it . . . again and again and again.

As it pertains to Revelation 12:10-11, our testimony along with Jesus’ blood gives us victory over the enemy’s lies. What God says about us and what He has done in and for us is TRUTH. What the enemy says and does is LIES. Whose report will you believe?
